Nikola Estate Wedding: Danielle & Troy’s Stunning Day (Shot for a Fellow Photographer)
Let's be honest, shooting a wedding for another photographer comes with a bit of pressure. But it is also the biggest honour.
Troy (now the man behind Oceanfolk) and I first worked together at a portrait studio, and he was the third former colleague to ask me to be their wedding photographer—a massive vote of confidence! Their entire guest list was filled with wedding and creative professionals, and with Tijana from Mitch and Tijana serving as Maid of Honour, the expectations were certainly high. I was thrilled to be the one they trusted to capture their day with my candid, cinematic approach.
This was my first time at Nikola Estate, and I’m a massive fan. It’s exactly the kind of venue I love to shoot.
The ceremony space is a charming, bright-white chapel that contrasts beautifully with the rustic look of the vineyard. The grounds are full of big trees and open spaces, which gives us tons of beautiful, even light (what photographers call "open shade") for family and bridal party photos.
The best part? The sun sets right behind the main buildings, and it guarantees incredible light all the way until the sun dips below the horizon. We had that perfect, golden glow for Danielle and Troy's portraits, and my creative energy was through the roof. I even managed to sneak them out for a few night portraits in front of the Chapel.
It was a brilliant day with a brilliant couple. Here are the highlights.
If you love this style of wedding photography—honest, natural, and focused on using great light to tell your story - I'd love to hear about your plans.
