Planning an Intimate Micro Wedding at Anderson Point, Perth Hills

Recently, after 10 years of shooting traditional weddings, I decided to change my focus as a wedding photographer to capture more small, intimate celebrations. I wanted to bring back excitement of the early years when every venue was a new experience. And micro weddings are quickly becoming my favorite thing to photograph. They feel more spontaneous somehow, lees rigid maybe?

Tiff and Craig's micro wedding took place at Anderson Point in the Perth Hills. It is a stunning spot, and it sits right in line with the kind of relaxed, intimate days I want to shoot more of.

If you are thinking about planning a Perth elopement or a small wedding out in the hills, here is a bit of what makes this location work so well.

A wedding CEREMONY at Anderson Point

Anderson Point is a private, rustic micro wedding venue built specifically for small gatherings of up to 30 people. It is completely off-grid with no mains power, which keeps everything grounded in the natural bushland. Because the property overlooks Walyunga National Park, open fires are a real safety concern, so lighting and setup plans need to stay simple and bush-safe.

For bridal prep, there is a tiny home right on the property. It is a tiny house so don’t expect lots of room but if you had 6 bridesmaid you wouldn’t be here after all.

For wet weather or extreme heat, the property uses a custom-designed tent that doubles as a mini reception space. Guy, the owner, mentioned they are also planning to build a dedicated shed to provide a sturdy backup for winter weddings down the track.

A few Tips for the Day

The hills can cool down quickly once the sun drops, so I always tell my couples to bring a warm layer just in case. Tiff and Craig brought tartan blankets to stay warm - a nice nod to Craig's Scottish roots that looked brilliant in photos. A denim jacket, leather layer, or a nice shawl does the trick just as well.

The terrain around the property is rugged. For adventurous couples who want to explore during portraits, bringing a comfortable spare pair of shoes is a must. A cool pair of boots or clean sneakers will keep you moving easily over uneven ground.

Best of all, when you stay on the property grounds for your photos, you do not need to worry about extra national park permits. During Tiff and Craig's session, we followed a small kangaroo path just off the main area and found a hidden spot covered in wildflowers with an incredible view of the valley below. This is for the adventurous souls though :) The area around the ceremony spot get beautiful light too.

Best Time of Year to Get Married in the Perth Hills

In my experience, the two absolute standout seasons for a Perth Hills wedding are Autumn and Spring.

Autumn (April to May)

The days are generally warm and comfortable without the intense summer heat, while the evenings are cooler and pleasant. April is especially popular thanks to its typically reliable weather. The Hills also look stunning this time of year, with golden light and rich autumn colours creating a gorgeous backdrop for outdoor vineyard or garden ceremonies in places like Darlington, Kalamunda, and Bickley. Things are starting to look green again.

Spring (September to early November)

Spring is my favourite time, bringing mild temperatures, fresh air, and a welcome break from the cold and rainy winter. It is also when the Perth Hills come alive with colourful wildflowers. Everything looks pretty and weddingy :) If you are thinking of an outdoor ceremony or beautiful wedding photos surrounded by nature, spring is a great time to make it happen.
